Weekend Wrap-up - The New Journey

It sure seems that I started this blog and quickly abandoned it.  That is not the case at all.  In fact, I have started about 25 different posts but none of them made the cut as being a good first official post.  I felt like today was the day to finally get the ball rolling.  What is so special about today?  Absolutely nothing but I did realize that we are now almost 3 solid months into 2021 and I have not made a single move toward any of my goals.  Now seems like a good time to start writing and a good way to track my progress as I start a journey for better health (as well as having some accountability).

Truth is, I have hit crisis mode with my weight.  I am the heaviest I have ever been and I do mean EVER.  I am heavier than I was when I gave birth and I was as big as a HOUSE back then.  Button pants have become a thing of the past, my shirts are barely covering my gut, and I discovered I have cankles.  CANKLES!!!!  If you are not familiar with this term, it is when your ankle is the same size as your calf.  This is something I have never had to worry about because I always had very shapely legs.  Now that we are getting into capris and shorts season, I would rather not worry about the fat rolls on my ankles.
On top of being heavy, I am feeling generally unhealthy.  I have been classified as overweight or obese my entire adult life but now I deal with some side effects because of my weight.  I am fatigued, get winded walking to the fridge, suffer from chronic headaches, and I don't look well. At my last doctor appointment, my blood work was flagged for high cholesterol and blood sugar.  The sad thing is, none of those things were motivation enough for me to take action.  My give a damn came back when I came to the realization that we are going to have so start really being seen in public and my son is graduating this year thus there will photos taken.  I am motivated by vanity.  Whatever it takes, right?

In order to kickstart things, the hubs and I started Whole 30 a couple of days ago.  We have successfully completed this program a couple of other times and it wasn't too painful.  This program has been around for awhile and is basically an elimination diet that removes sugar, grains, legumes, and diary. The idea is once the 30 days are up, you slowly reintroduce things back into the diet slowly to identify hot spots. In our previous attempts, we made the 30 days without fail but fell into the arms of cheeseburgers, pizza and booze the minute we were done. This time, I'd like to continue with modifications that will keep us on the clean eating path.

I am recommitting to running and CrossFit to help get me ready for my summer wardrobe.  I have been  really lazy lately and making a ton of excuses why I shouldn't exercise.  I need to get off my ass.  I am signed up for a November marathon.  Yes, a full 26.2 mile run...long story for another time. Pay no attention that I cannot run for 30 seconds at a time right now so needless to say I have a lot of work to do.  I also have to get back to my CrossFit classes.  I have a love-hate relationship with this workout.  I love it when I am there. I usually dread going and hate being sore after the class.  I just need to build up the consistency.

So here it is, my first OFFICIAL post and it is a declaration of heading to better health.
